Dabu Hand Block Printed Mulmul Cotton Scarf

GREEN TILES

33.5  ” W x  93” L

Soft and lovely this larger Mulmul cotton hand block printed scarf is the perfect weight for summer! Light, elegant and incredibly soft! Cotton in all of it’s forms also transition beautifully across seasons making it the ultimate trans-seasonal, breathable fiber.

Mulmul is a finely woven from cotton that has been around for more than 1000 years and is one of the most prized possessions of India.

This fiber is a treasured handloom material because of it’s rich texture and beautiful drape. These scarves look beautiful dressed up or down. And they pair nicely with the Kaftan tunics I have in the web drop or a casual white t-shirt or denim shirt!

This design was also created with an old, traditional resist printing technique called Dabu that uses a resist paste made from local mud, tree resin, spoiled wheat flour and lime. The paste is applied to the fabric with hand cut blocks and then sprinkled with saw dust. The end result makes the perfect resist material that holds up to multiple dye baths and can easily be washed out with water and hand washing. The pigments used to create the dye is derived from local plants. The family where I sourced this scarf has been passing on this tradition of natural dying for multiple generations. They use a variety of beautiful base fabrics including cotton and silk.

Spot clean or hand wash with mild detergent and cold water.
