| As we design and test each pattern, we use a multitude of very talented
sewing friends who bring along years of experience. Over the years,
we've come to trust their judgment and take to heart their good ideas,
hints and tips. We want to share some of those ideas on the site with
you. If YOU have a great idea that you find along the way, send it to
us at orders@amybutlerdesign.com and we might just post it here!
Thanks, and enjoy. -Amy |

April 2006
A helpful hint for the Weekender Travel Bag from Linda Kozienko:
I think I have made every bag pattern that has come out...the latest, and so far my favorite, being the Weekender Travel Bag. I discovered that with a little extra support in the bottom like a plexiglass piece, you can use the bag to carry a Singer Featherweight Sewing Machine in style. Thanks for so many great and different bags to make. |

September 2008
A helpful hint for the Gumdrop Pillow from Wanda Chillscyzn:
Wanda put in an invisible zipper between two of the panels to make stuffing it much cleaner. Wanda says "It will be great if you have to add more stuffing or if you want to wash the pillow case itself." |

CANVAS
WE'VE HAD SOME FOLKS ASK US WHAT CANVAS IS.
THE CANVAS WE USE IS A 10 OZ. COTTON CANVAS MADE BY THOMPSON MANUFACTURING. IT IS 60" WIDE. YOU CAN SUBSTITUTE THE CANVAS WITH NATURAL DUCK CLOTH MANUFACTURED BY SCHOTT INTERNATIONAL, INC. IT IS 100% COTTON AND IS ALSO 60" WIDE. BOTH OF THESE FABRICS ARE SIMILAR IN WEIGHT AND BOTH MATERIALS ARE APPROPRIATE FOR MY PATTERNS.
